Most likely you didn’t enter the 15% off code at checkout.

I am pretty sure I did Noah. One thing I noticed was my bank charged a small fee because of an International transaction. I tried to use Paypal but it said it was not available for that transaction so I had to use my bank account? I just want my brush LOL

My BK8 brush arrived today. It is in good shape, no damage to it or the case. I will use it in the morning. My initial thoughts are – It is a nice best Badger brush for $100. Is it the quality of my Thater 4125/2? Not even close. I will shave with it and review

Received mine today. Good looking brush will shave with it tomorrow.

You guys talked me into picking up one of these brushes! At the price I paid ($93.92 shipped to Tennessee,) I just couldn’t pass it up! I hope that it at least outshines the two Whipped Dog handled/Golden Nib knotted brushes that I’m currently using. One is a 22/50ish Super 2 band finest and the other is a 20/45ish Premium Silvertip. I’m really looking forward to giving this bigger brush a go.

I am interested in what you guys think of the brush.

I said I would do a review on this brush when it arrived so here it is

The brush is a quality brush and so is the case. very nice looking. I made a lather this morning in my scuttle with Alvarez Gomez crème. This is a soft brush and I am used to a Thater which has more body and stiffness. I just don’t like a soft brush and this is on the softer side. The lather was not working for me so I cleaned out the brush and scuttle and started over with a good Razorock soap ( the freedberg) The lather was better but due to the softness of the brush it took a while ( 40 -60 swirls in the soap) to make an acceptable lather. with my Thater I can do it in 15 seconds with 20 -30 swirls. I doubt you could face lather easily with this brush. I did not try it because in the process of making my lather in the scuttle I quickly realized that this one is not what I am looking for ( this brush did not loose a hair)

Noah,
thank you for the tip. I was in bad need of a good brush and this is an incredible deal. They were offering another 15”% off this weekend, so if you contact them immediately! they may give you another $14. Credit!

Mine arrived yesterday. I was happy to see it shipped with the cylindrical display box.

In my hands, the backbone was enough to load soap from a hard puck of Arlinton, and then I face lathered. Nice lather production, good lather release, I want to use it for a week straight. The tips are already soft, if they soften up more and the backbone stays the same, this will be my number one brush. I really like the handle on this brush, fits my hand well.

It gets better with each use.

Thanks for the info/confirmation Noah!

I’ve used mine once with The Gentlemens refinery. Black Ice. Brush is a lot softer then my BLK2. Like the Red cased they came with.

I’ve used the new BK8 twice now. I soaked it in warm water, almost up to the bottom of the handle, every day for 3 days straight. Awesome bloom. bigger than the Thater 2band. I read Kent’s care instructions and refreshed my knowledge of brush use/care on these forums too. I’m so used to the Thater’s backbone I was scared I’d smush the Kent too much. I’ve used it twice now. Each time I started by running it under warm water for a few seconds to get it wet, then I let it sit in an inch of warm water in my scuttle. I shook out most of the water. I used T&H 1805 cream for the first shave. Following Kent’s instructions I just barely swirled the tips of the brush in the cream, then lathered it up, very lightly, in my scuttle. I started out on my face VERY lightly, barely pushing at all. and I swirled/swiped the lather on. The brush is much softer and less scritchy than the Thater, but it also holds a LOT more lather. It did pick the whiskers up, I had feared that it wouldn’t be able to do that. The second shave was last night. I used a puck of WoolFat. I feared that this brush’s lack of backbone would make it difficult to lather ol’ Mitchell’s. but i was wrong. It whipped up a perfect lather very quickly – faster than the Thater, which shocked me! I’m going to have to constantly remind myself to not push too hard when loading or lathering, because the brush does flatten out pretty easily. This brush has taught me a few lessons about backbone and whisker-lift.

I noticed the day after each shave that the brush tips were stiff – like they were coated in something. The Thater was the same for the first month or so after I started using it. I’m not sure what causes this ( I do rinse my brushes very well!! ), and I remember some folks complaining about this being a flaw with the Thater, but all of that was put to rest once the brush fully broke in.

I think this was a great find and I’m glad that I jumped in on the buy. This could end up being my boy’s first brush in about 10 years!

My Kent does this as well. I’ve noticed that once it’s dry that I can stroke it briskly against my palm and the clumps seem to separate. It’s almost like the hairs are sticking to one another when still damp. I’ve also noticed that the diameter of the badger hair shafts on the Kent are thicker than my other brands of brushes. I wonder if the hair shafts are absorbing and holding more water which might cause them to stick when wet?

I recall reading that as the protein bonds in the hair shafts break down over time that the brushes will get softer.

I wonder if this will also help to alleviate this condition?
